Setting the Stage for a Wedding at The Hills St. John

Tables prepped for a beautiful outdoor wedding reception at a villa from The Hills St John

Every wedding at The Hills begins long before the ceremony itself, with a question most couples don’t think to ask until they’re deep in planning: which villas should the wedding party actually stay in? On an estate built around 22 private villas, the answer changes everything from how the morning of the wedding unfolds to where the after-party quietly continues once the night winds down.

We’ve hosted enough weddings on this hillside to know that the right villa lineup is just as important as the ceremony itself. The wrong setup means vendors hauling equipment across the property and family scattered too far from the action. The right one means everyone is exactly where they need to be, when they need to be there, without anyone having to think twice about it. Here’s how we’d map it out.

Agave: The Villa Closest to the Ceremony

Every wedding needs a true home base, somewhere close enough to the ceremony that getting ready doesn’t turn into its own logistical event. Agave sits directly across from The Terrace, our primary ceremony venue, which makes it the natural staging ground for both guests and vendors on the day itself.

In practice, that means hair and makeup teams can set up without a long walk, florals and decor can be staged minutes before the ceremony rather than hours, and the wedding party has a private space to gather right up until it’s time to walk out. The patio doubles easily as a pre-ceremony hangout, the kind of space where nerves settle and excitement builds in equal measure.

Gardenia: Required for Full Catering Access

Not every villa on the property is built to support a full catering operation, and Gardenia is one of only two that are. Along with Agave, it’s a required booking for any couple who wants full catering service as part of their package, which makes it one of the first decisions to lock in once a guest count and reception style start coming together.

Couples planning a seated dinner or a larger reception should think of Gardenia less as a place to sleep and more as the engine room of the whole event, where the kitchen team, the catering staff, and the flow of the evening all come together behind the scenes.

Pineapple: Built for the Bride and Groom

Pineapple is consistently the villa couples choose for themselves, and once you see it, it’s easy to understand why. It’s the only villa on the property with a private hot tub, which makes for a genuinely different kind of morning-of experience, quiet, private, and entirely removed from the buildup happening elsewhere on the estate.

The patio is generous enough to host a small gathering on its own, whether that’s a first-look moment with a photographer, a quiet toast with the wedding party before the ceremony, or a low-key nightcap once the reception winds down and the couple finally gets a moment to themselves.

Papaya and Bougainvillea: For Family Traveling Together

Weddings bring families together in close quarters, and how that’s handled matters more than most couples expect going in. Papaya comes with its own private pool, making it a strong choice for a couple’s immediate family who want their own space without sacrificing convenience.

Right next door sits Bougainvillea, which gives extended family, parents, siblings, or close relatives a place to stay that’s just as close to the action without anyone feeling like they’re on top of each other. Together, the two villas solve one of the trickiest parts of wedding planning: keeping everyone near without making anyone feel crowded.
